ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭ: ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയുടെ ജനീവയിലെ ഓഫീസിലേക്ക് (യു.എൻ.ഒ.ജി.) അഞ്ചു മയിലുകളെ സമ്മാനിച്ച് ഇന്ത്യ. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച നടന്ന ചടങ്ങിലാണ് യു.എന്നിലെ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ സ്ഥിരംപ്രതിനിധി അരിന്ദം ബാഗ്ചി യു.എൻ.ഒ.ജി. ഡയറക്ടർ ജനറൽ ടാറ്റിയാന വളവോയയ്ക്ക് മയിലുകളെ ഔദ്യോഗികമായി കൈമാറിയത്.
നീലത്തൂവലുകളുള്ള നാലു മയിലുകളെയും അപൂർവമായിമാത്രം കാണപ്പെടുന്ന വെള്ളത്തൂവലുള്ള ഒരു ആൺമയിലിനെയുമാണ് കൈമാറിയത്. ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയുടെ യൂറോപ്യൻ തലസ്ഥാനം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അരിയാന പാർക്കിലാകും ഇനി ഇവയുടെ സ്വതന്ത്രവിഹാരം.
‘‘സൗന്ദര്യത്തിന്റെയും സഹിഷ്ണുതയുടെയും പ്രതീകമാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ മയിലുകൾ. അവ പരിസ്ഥിതിസംരക്ഷണത്തിലും ജൈവവൈവിധ്യ സംരക്ഷണത്തിലുമുള്ള ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പ്രതിബന്ധതയെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു’’ -ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രതിനിധി പറഞ്ഞു.
ഇത് രണ്ടാംതവണയാണ് ഇന്ത്യ യു.എൻ.ഒ.ജി.ക്ക് മയിലുകളെ സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നത്. 1981-ൽ, അന്നത്തെ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന ഇന്ദിരാഗാന്ധി ഡൽഹി മൃഗശാലയിലെ രണ്ടുമയിലുകളെ ജനീവയിലെത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു.
