ന്യൂഡല്ഹി: ഫെന്സിങ് (വാള്പ്പയറ്റ്) ഇനത്തില് ഒളിമ്പിക്സിന് യോഗ്യത നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരിയായി സി.എ. ഭവാനി ദേവി. ഹംഗറിയില് നടക്കുന്ന ഫെന്സിങ് ലോകകപ്പിലെ പ്രകടനത്തിലൂടെയാണ് ഭവാനി ഈവര്ഷത്തെ ടോക്യോ ഒളിമ്പിക്സിന് യോഗ്യത നേടിയത്. സാബര് ഇനത്തിലാണ് മത്സരിക്കുക.
ചെന്നൈയില് ജനിച്ച ഭവാനി ദേവി പത്താം ക്ലാസ്സിനുശേഷം തലശ്ശേരി സായി കേന്ദ്രത്തിലാണ് ഫെന്സിങ്ങില് കൂടുതല് പരിശീലനം നേടിയത്. 2010-ല് ഫിലിപ്പീന്സില് നടന്ന ഏഷ്യന് ചാമ്പ്യന്ഷിപ്പില് വെങ്കലം നേടിയതോടെ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ശ്രദ്ധയിലെത്തി. 27 കാരിയായ ഭവാനി ഇപ്പോള് ലോക റാങ്കിങ്ങില് 45-ാം സ്ഥാനത്താണ്.
ഒളിമ്പിക് യോഗ്യതനേടിയ ഭവാനിയെ അഭിനന്ദിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് കേന്ദ്ര കായികമന്ത്രി കിരണ് റിജിജു രംഗത്തെത്തി.
