മെല്‍ബണ്‍: ലോക മൂന്നാം നമ്പര്‍ താരം റോജര്‍ ഫെഡറര്‍ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയന്‍ ഓപ്പണിന്റെ സെമിയില്‍ കടന്നു. നാലു മണിക്കൂറും 33 മിനിറ്റും നീണ്ട അഞ്ചു സെറ്റ് പോരാട്ടത്തിനൊടുവില്‍ അമേരേിക്കയുടെ 100-ാം നമ്പര്‍ താരം ടെന്നിസ് സാന്‍ഡ്ഗ്രെനെ മറികടന്നാണ് ഫെഡറര്‍ സെമിയിലെത്തിയത്. (6-3, 2-6, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3)
കടുത്ത പോരാട്ടം കാഴ്ചവെച്ച സാന്‍ഡ്ഗ്രെന്‍ അട്ടിമറി പ്രതീക്ഷ ഉണര്‍ത്തിയിരുന്നു. ഫെഡറര്‍ക്കെതിരേ ആദ്യ സെറ്റ് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ശേഷം രണ്ടു മൂന്നും സെറ്റുകള്‍ സ്വന്തമാക്കി മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ചവെച്ച ശേഷമാണ് സാന്‍ഡ്ഗ്രെന്‍ കീഴടങ്ങിയത്.
ആറു തവണ ജേതാവായ ഫെഡററുടെ 15-ാം ക്വാര്‍ട്ടര്‍ ഫൈനല്‍ ജയമാണിത്. സെമിയില്‍ ഏഴു തവണ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയന്‍ ഓപ്പണ്‍ ജേതാവായ നൊവാക് ജോക്കോവിച്ചോ 32-ാം നമ്പര്‍ താരം മിലോസ് റാവോണിക്കോ ആകും ഫെഡററുടെ എതിരാളി.
