ലോസ് ആഞ്ജലീസ്: 1960-ലെ റോം ഒളിമ്പിക്സില് ഡെക്കാത്തലണില് സ്വര്ണം നേടിയ അമേരിക്കന് താരം റാഫെര് ജോണ്സണ് അന്തരിച്ചു. 86 വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. ലോസ് ആഞ്ജലീസിലെ ഷെര്മന് ഓക്സിലെ സ്വവസതിയില് വെച്ചായിരുന്നു അന്ത്യം.
1960 കാലഘട്ടത്തില് ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അത്ലറ്റുകളിലൊരാളായിരുന്നു ജോണ്സണ്. 1956-ലെ മെല്ബണ് ഒളിമ്പിക്സില് താരം വെള്ളിമെഡലും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.1960 ഒളിമ്പിക്സില് അമേരിക്കയുടെ ഫ്ലാഗ് കൈയ്യിലേന്തി ടീമിനെ നയിച്ചത് ജോണ്സണായിരുന്നു. മൂന്നുതവണ ഡെക്കാത്തലണില് ലോക റെക്കോഡ് സ്ഥാപിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് ഇദ്ദേഹം.
റോം ഒളിമ്പിക്സിനുശേഷം ജോണ്സണ് ചില സിനിമകളിലും മുഖം കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
