ചൂരല്‍മലയിലേയും മുണ്ടക്കൈയിലേയും ഉരുള്‍പൊട്ടല്‍ ദുരന്തത്തിനൊപ്പം വലിയ ചര്‍ച്ചയാകാതെ പോയതാണ് കോഴിക്കോട്ട് വിലങ്ങാട്ടെ ദുരന്തം. കൂടുതല്‍ മരണം സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ല എന്നതു കൊണ്ടുമാത്രം പലരും മറന്നുപോയ ഇടം. ദുരന്തബാധിതര്‍ പലയിടത്തായി ചിതറിപ്പോയിട്ടും ജോലിയും കൂലിയുമില്ലാതായിപ്പോയിട്ടും വാടക പോലും മുടങ്ങുന്ന സാഹചര്യമുണ്ട്.
