Thomas Biju Mathew
Thomas Biju Mathew served as professor and Head (AINP on Pesticide Residue) of Agricultural Entomology Department at College of Agriculture, Vellayani. After 32 years of service he retired from the service on March 31st,2018. His Specialisation was on Management of Pests, pesticides and pesticide residues in food crops. Implemented pesticide residue analysis in the market samples of vegetables for the State Government and published periodic reports in public domain to enable the consumers to choose pesticide free vegetables .Standardized and popularized simple cost effective methods (dipping in 2% vinegar or 2% tamarind paste) to decontaminate (upto 60%) risky vegetables which could be easily adopted by homemakers of Kerala. Developed the formula for “KAU Veggie Wash-1” a household product to eliminate pesticide residues from vegetables which was sold by KAU to private agencies for marketing “Safe to Eat” Vegetables .He headed Kerala government’s Safe to eat project for a period of 6 years starting from 2012 to 2018.

Thomas Biju Mathew was the winner of State Young scientist award in the year 1990 and FAO-ICAR post-doctoral international fellowship in the year 1995.In 2008 he got Vasvik National Award meant for researches in the field of agriculture .The award was handed over by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam
