പിറന്ന മണ്ണില് ജനാധിപത്യം പുലരാന് 15 വര്ഷം ഹോമിച്ച ആങ് സാന് സ്യൂചി മോചിതയാക്കപ്പെടുകയും പാര്ലമെന്റ് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് മല്സരിച്ച് ജയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. മെയ് 2-ന് സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞാചടങ്ങ് നടന്നു. ഇപ്പോള് 24 വര്ഷത്തിന് ശേഷം പുറംലോകം സന്ദര്ശിക്കുന്നതിനായി സ്യൂചിക്ക് പാസ്പോര്ട്ട് അനുവദിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. മാറ്റത്തിന്റെ നല്ല നാളുകള് മ്യാന്മറില് സംഭവിക്കാന് പോവുന്നതിന്റെ സൂചനകകളായി ഇതിനെ കാണാം. സ്യൂചിയിലൂടെ പുതിയ മ്യാന്മര് ഉയര്ത്തപ്പെടട്ടെ.
മ്യാന്മറിന്റെ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യ സമരനായകന് ആങ് സാന്റെയും ആദര്ശധീരയായ ഖിന് കിയുടെയും മകളാണ് അറുപത്തിയഞ്ചുകാരിയായ സ്യുചി. അവരുടെ രണ്ടാം വയസ്സില് അച്ഛന് ലോകത്തോട് വിടപറഞ്ഞു. ഡല്ഹിയിലെ ലേഡി ശ്രീറാം കോളേജിലും ബ്രിട്ടനിലെ ഓക്സ്ഫഡ് സര്വകലാശാലയിലും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം. 1972ല് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരനായ വിദ്യാഭ്യസ വിചക്ഷണന് മൈക്കല് ആരിസിനെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു. പട്ടാളഭരണത്തിനെതിരെ ജനാധിപത്യവാദികള് സമരം നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്ന 1988ല് അവര് മ്യാന്മറില് തിരിച്ചെത്തി. രോഗിയായ അമ്മയെ ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കാനായിരുന്നു വരവ്.
എന്നാല് പിതാവിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയബോധം സിരകളിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന അവര് പ്രതിഷേധക്കാര്ക്കൊപ്പം കൂടി. സമരം മുന്നില് നിന്ന് നയിച്ചു. നാഷണല് ലീഗ് ഫോര് ഡെമോക്രസി (എന്.എല്.ഡി.) എന്ന പാര്ട്ടി സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. അതിന്റെ സെക്രട്ടറി ജനറലായി. പട്ടാളഭരണം അവസാനിപ്പിക്കണം എന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് തുടര്ച്ചയായി സമരങ്ങള് നടത്തി. അതോടെ അവര് പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണിലെ കരടായി. രാജ്യത്തിന് ഭീഷണിയാണെന്നാരോപിച്ച് 1989ല് അവരെ വീട്ട് തടങ്കലിലാക്കി. ആദ്യത്തെ തടവ്. സ്യൂചി തടവില് കഴിയുമ്പോഴും അവരുടെ പാര്ട്ടി എന്.എല്.ഡി. പാര്ലമെന്റ് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് മത്സരിച്ചു. ആകെയുള്ള 485 സീറ്റില് 392ഉം നേടി. മുപ്പതു വര്ഷത്തിനിടെ മ്യാന്മറില് നടന്ന ആദ്യ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പായിരുന്നു അത്.
എന്നാല് ഈ വിജയം പട്ടാളം അംഗീകരിച്ചില്ല. അധികാരം വിട്ടുകൊടുക്കാന് അവര് തയ്യാറായില്ല. സ്യുചിയുടെ തടവും പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ ഭരണവും മ്യാന്മറില് തുടര്ന്നു. ജനാധിപത്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി ജീവിതം ഉഴിഞ്ഞുവെച്ച സ്യൂ ചിക്ക് 1991ല് സമാധാനത്തിനുള്ള നൊബേല് സമ്മാനം ലഭിച്ചു. 1999ല് ബ്രിട്ടനില് വെച്ച് അവരുടെ ഭര്ത്താവ് മരിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അന്ത്യകര്മങ്ങളില് പങ്കെടുക്കാന് ബ്രിട്ടനിലേക്കയയ്ക്കാം എന്ന് പട്ടാളം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തെങ്കിലും സ്യൂചി അത് തള്ളി. പിന്നീട് ഒരിക്കലും മ്യാന്മറില് തിരിച്ചെത്താന് ഭരണകൂടം അനുവദിക്കില്ലെന്ന് അവര് ഭയന്നു.
1995ല് പട്ടാളം അവരെ തടവില് നിന്ന് വിട്ടയച്ചിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ, സഞ്ചാര സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം അനുവദിച്ചില്ല. യാങ്കോണിന് വെളിയില് കടക്കുന്നതില് നിന്നും തന്റെ അണികളെ കാണുന്നതില് നിന്നും വിലക്കി. പിന്നീട് വീണ്ടും വീട്ടു തടങ്കല്. 2002ല് വീണ്ടും മോചനം. അന്ന് അവര് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച പൊതുയോഗങ്ങളില് ജനം തിങ്ങിക്കൂടിയത് പട്ടാളഭരണകൂടത്തെ അസ്വസ്ഥമാക്കി. 2003ല് ഡെപായിന് പട്ടണത്തില് വെച്ച് സ്യൂചിയുടെ വാഹനവ്യൂഹത്തെ പട്ടാളത്തിന്റെ അനുകൂലികള് ആക്രമിച്ചു.
സ്യൂചിയെ വീണ്ടും തടവിലാക്കി. സംഘര്ഷത്തില് നാലുപേര് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്റെ അവകാശവാദം. എന്നാല് എഴുപതിലേറെപ്പേര് മരിച്ചെന്നാണ് എന്.എല്.ഡി.യുടെ കണക്ക്. ആ തടവ് തീരേണ്ടത് കഴിഞ്ഞവര്ഷം സപ്തംബറിലായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല് സ്യൂചി തടവില് കഴിയുന്ന കായലോര വസതിയില് ഒരു അമേരിക്കക്കാരന് നീന്തിക്കയറിയെന്നും ഇത് വീട്ടുതടങ്കലിന്റെ മാനദണ്ഡങ്ങളുടെ ലംഘനമാണെന്നും ആരോപിച്ച് ഭരണകൂടം അവരുടെ തടവ് 18 മാസത്തെക്കു കൂടി നീട്ടി.
അതിന്റെ കാലാവധിയാണ് നവംബര് 12-ന് അവസാനിച്ചു. നവംബര് 13-ന് സ്യൂ ചിയെ വീട്ടുതടങ്കലില്നിന്ന് മോചിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ഉത്തരവില് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം പട്ടാളഭരണകൂടം ഒപ്പിട്ടു. സ്യൂചി പുറത്തുവരും മുമ്പ് പട്ടാളം രാജ്യത്ത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടത്തി. അതില് പങ്കെടുക്കാന് എന്.എല്.ഡി. തയ്യാറായില്ല. തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് പങ്കെടുക്കാത്ത പാര്ട്ടിയെ ഭരണകൂടം പിരിച്ചുവിടുകയും ചെയ്തു. പ്രഹസനമായി മാറിയ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില് വോട്ടുചെയ്യാന് പോലും സ്യൂചിക്ക് അനുമതി ലഭിച്ചില്ല.
