Pinarayi advocates tax boycott; plans anti-govt agitation

Thiruvananthapuram: Addressing the media, CPI {M} state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan announced the party’s decision to launch a massive agitation to protest the new tax burden on the people, already reeling under persistent inflation. He exhorted the people not to pay the increased water tariff and land tax saying that this is the first time in the history of the state that additional resources are being mobilised through fresh taxes without the nod of the assembly. “The right to raise additional taxes does not mean that the government can bypass the Assembly and make the budget irrelevant. The government should come out with a white paper on the state’s finances,” he said.
