KSRTC levies cess; insurance cover for all commuters

Thiruvananthapuram: With governmental approval, KSRTC has decided to collect cess for implementation of an insurance scheme for travelers, from next month onwards. An additional re.1 will be collected as insurance cess for tickets costing from re.14-23, re.2 on tickets from re.24-48, re.3 for tickets from re. 49-73, re.4 on tickets from re.74-98, and re.5 for tickets above re. 99. All those travelling on KSRTC buses will be covered by the insurance scheme. Depending on the nature of the injuries, they will get up to re.3,000 from the insurance company through KSRTC. For claims above Rs.3,000, the parties will have to approach the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal.
