Thiruvananthapuram: The revolutionary song ‘Balikudeerangale’ written by Vayalar and tuned by Devarajan celebrated its 57th anniversary on August 14. Generations gathered at Palayam martyrs’ column to sing the immortal song. The martyrs’ column at Palayam recollected the First Independence War in 1857. Both Vayalar and Devarajan together created this song for the martyrs who laid their life for the country. Twenty-five singers including Devarajan and K S George sung the song for the first time at VJT Hall on the inaugural day of martyrs' column. CPI (M) Politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Pirappankodu Murali, K S George’s son Lalu George came at the martyrs’ column to recollect those yesteryears.
