SHRC intervenes on behalf of bar owners! @Big Debate

The closure of 418 bars of a total of 752 in the state with the country’s highest per capita consumption, took an interesting twist with State Human Rights Commission directing the government to renew licenses of all bar hotels with 2-star standards, which should be allowed to operate under 2007 rules. Noting that there was discrimination in allocation of licences, which should be avoided, Chairperson Justice J B Koshy observed that Article 14 of the Constitution promises equality before law. Future licences should be issued only to hotels with 3-star facilities. News@9 hosts INC’s MLA T N Prathapan & D Sugathan, Fr. Antony James of KCBC and Biju Ramesh, representative of bar hotel owners.
