UN Human Rights Council to probe Israeli ‘war crimes’

A special session of UNs’ human rights body voted 29-1 to authorise an international commission of inquiry to investigate alleged Israeli human rights violations bordering on war crimes in Gaza. Only US voted against the resolution moved by Arab nations. 17 of the 47 member-nations abstained. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said that of the more than 600 Palestinian deaths, 3/4th were civilians, including 147 children and 74 women. At the latest count more than 680 Palestinians and 31 Israelis have been killed. She also referred to an Israeli naval shelling that struck seven children playing on the beach, killing 4 from the same family.
