Maradona, Blatter add to Messi’s Cup of woes
Maradona slammed Messi’s choice for the Golden Ball award, attributing the decision to off-pitch factors: “When marketing people want him to win something he didn’t {actually} win, it’s unfair. I could see that he didn’t want to collect it.” Messi echoed that sentiment, admitting that after losing the World Cup: “The prize doesn’t interest me at all.” FIFA president Blatter, who handed out the award, too said he was surprised to see Messi chosen ahead of James Rodriguez, Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller.
