CU VC rethinks surveillance camera installation move

Kozhikode: Students have been agitating against the proposed installation of surveillance cameras in Calicut varsity campus, including girl’s hostels to snoop on potential protestors. Vice Chancellor M Abdul Salam, the moving spirit behind the intrusive scheme justified the putative decision, attributing it to a directive from the “collector’s chamber,” to safeguard the modesty of inmates from peeping Toms. However, the move is being rethought in the wake of burgeoning opposition. The syndicate also decided, at the insistence of T N Prathapan MLA, to set a minimum of 35 per cent marks for SC & ST candidates as qualification to the PhD entrance examination.
