“Police remain silent spectators” VC tilts at a new windmill

Kozhikode: Calicut varsity VC who had requested police protection against women hit-squads out to tarnish his image, has now turned on the police themselves. In a circular issued by the Dy Registrar, the VC invokes a High Court judgement, which said any “Agitation should be kept at least 200 metres away from the University buildings.” Despite this, the VC has keenly observed: “..that persons are habituated to violate the Hon’ble High Court orders and the Police remain silent spectators.” Student and teacher organisations accuse the VC of misinterpreting the word ‘agitation’ to suppress all dissent and opinion on the campus by unleashing police might.
