Vaiko detained over protest at Rajapaksa visit

Dilli: MDMK’s Vaiko, a BJP ally, and about 100 supporters were detained while protesting against the visit of Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in town to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Modi. Protesters were detained when they began marching from near the Jantar Mantar towards parliament, waving black flags. The group halted near the Parliament Street police station where steel barricades were erected. “We have come to Dilli to protest against the visit of the butcher of Tamils,” Vaiko said, referring to Rajapaksa who is accused of Tamil genocide during the civil war. Dressed in black, activists raised slogans against Rajapaksa and burnt his posters.
