Brisk polling marks end to elections

New Delhi: The final phase of elections to the 16th Lok Sabha saw brisk polling in 41 constituencies in 3 states. As in the previous 6 rounds voter turnout was impressive. Despite naxalite threat, Bihar registered 52% and UP 45%. Varanasi with a 50% polling rate witnessed an increase over last time. The Congress candidate Ajay Rai was embroiled in a controversy, with BJP and AAP lodging complaints with EC, after Rai turned up at the booth flaunting his election symbol. In Bengal, which had a record 65% polling, 20 people were injured in clashes between TMC supporters and CPI {M} cadre. Prominent leaders in the fray include Modi, Subhashini Ali, Saugata Roy and Dinesh Trivedi.
