Sixteen quarries within a kilometer perimeter, most illegal

Kozhikode: When the working of the sixteen quarries within a perimeter of 1 kilometer started threatening their very existence, the inhabitants started an agitation. The vigilance squad found that most of these at Parathottil in Karassery Panchayath were illegal. The environmental protection committee had alerted the department. Most of the quarries were not properly inspected by the Geology department. Dy SP Ashraf and Land Tribunal Tahasildar Raveendran conducted an investigation of the site. The report will be submitted to the vigilance director, shortly. Meanwhile the people’s indefinite strike entered its thirty first day.
