Researchers occupy CU library

Kozhikode: About 50 research scholars, mostly girls, occupied the library of Calicut University; in indefinite protest against installation of biometric scanners to monitor their attendance. Such a regime of surveillance is unacceptable to them. “Research is not a time-bound activity. Moreover, we lack fora for redressal of grievances,” says Fazil Bappu, secretary of All Kerala Research Scholars Association {AKRSA} unit, here. “Denying fellowship by linking it to punching is not a right approach,” says V A Shahna, AKRSA member. Ponnani MLA P Sreeramakrishnan said that researchers could not be treated on par with factory employees to be subjected to a strict regimen.
