Aleppey-native & student of zoology, Adv. T B Seluraj, migrated to Kozhikode in childhood, and as an adult goaded by eminent historian Dr. M G S Naraynan strayed into historical research. Prodded by ‘Mathrubhumi’ editorial team and with the help of the staff of Regional Archives, he started a weekly column -‘Paithrukam’ {heritage} - in ‘Nagaram’ supplement from April 2008, completing 250 instalments. ‘Mathrubhmi books’ published a compilation of 96 pieces. He attributes the egalitarian ethos of Malabar, as opposed to casteism and servility to royalty in Travancore, to the twin heritage of secular British rule from 1792 on and the easy camaraderie of the Muslim community.
