Very few veterans taught how important visuals are to movies, one such genius was Balu Mahendra. Balu who started off his career as a cinematographer in mid-70s later became script writer and director. He began his film life by wielding camera for Malayalam film ‘Nellu’ in 1974. He won national award for that movie. Followed by ‘Nellu’, he wielded camera for ‘Chattakkari’, ‘Sankarabharanam’, ‘Ulkadal’, ‘Ragam’ and many more to his credit. His directorial debut was ‘Kokila’ in Kannada. He gave a new face to Tamil movies through his superhits like ‘Sagma’, ‘Moonam Pirai’, ‘Veedu’. His directorial venture in Malayalam ‘Yathra’ was a super hit and through that he entered into Malayali heart.
