Cheruvayal Raman, 69, the preserver of 47 indigenous varieties of rice, trees and herbs is recovering in Rashid Hospital, Dubai, from a heart attack. The barefoot farmer was to share his wisdom with nature lovers in Ajman and lead the paddy cultivation project by Habitat School students. Though he has spoken over phone, wife Gita is sad as she isn’t able to tend to him. The family expects the government to make good on the promise by the agriculture minister to bear the expenses of the treatment which has already crossed re 10 lakh. Indian government has honoured him with National Plant Genome Saviour Award in 2016. Rajesh, the second of two sons and daughters, is set to leave for Dubai.
