Data Breach Compromises BA Customers

British Airways apologised after the credit card details of 380,000 customers were stolen in the most serious attack on its website and app. The airline discovered that bookings made between Aug. 21 and Sept. 5 had been infiltrated in a “very sophisticated, malicious criminal” attack. Customers complained of having receiving no direct warning and others were not contacted until more than eight hours after the breach was made public. Hackers obtained names, street and email addresses, credit card numbers, expiry dates and security codes – enough info to steal from accounts. BA could be fined re. 4,658.37 crore after the data breach being investigated by the Information Commissioner’s Office.
