Clear criteria needed for relief fund distribution: HC

Kochi: The Kerala high court on Tuesday ordered to abide by proper criteria for distributing compensation to flood victims. An expert committee should be appointed to identify those deserving people. Court also asked on what basis did the minimum compensation amount was fixed at Rs 4 lakh. While considering the petitions relating to flood havoc, the court instructed the government to inform on the criteria for compensation before September 19. The compensation must be calculated based on priority and the intensity of the loss. Every aspect should be evaluated scientifically and should be transparent, it said. High court also instructed the government to seek expert opinion if needed.
