Flood relief: Govt. plans to approach World Bank for loan

T'puram: The Kerala government is planning to approach the World Bank to secure a loan of Rs 3000 crore for rebuilding the basic infrastructure in the flood-ravaged state. Representatives of the World Bank will reach Kerala on Wednesday to conduct preliminary discussions. The final decision regarding the loan amount will be taken after a detailed evaluation of the loss. The government will request for loan by pointing out the need for rebuilding basic infrastructure in the state. It is estimated that around Rs 20,000 crore will be needed for this purpose. The World Bank had earlier expressed willingness to help Kerala. Hence, the government expects that it would get the loan with less interest rate.
