Capital punishment for custodial death?

The Thiruvananthapuram CBI special court has pronounced death sentence to two policemen, among the five, found guilty in the custodial torture death of Udayakumar at Fort police station. The first accused K Jithakumar and second accused SV Sreekumar have been sentenced to death by the special court. A fine of Rs 2 lakh each was also imposed on the two cops. Six policemen were named as accused in the case. But one of them died during the trial. The order came after 13 years of the incident. Udayakumar was taken into custody on September 27, 2005 by a probe team led by CI E K Sabu of Fort police station.
