Illegally stored scrap cleared

Kozhikode: Health department officials of the corporation removed eight tonnes of scrap, which were stored in an encroached public place by merchants. The haul worth re. 2 lakh was removed in four installments by a team headed by Health Inspector K P Rameshan. There was a brief altercation with the traders, who alleged that they were not given adequate time to remove the stuff, which was contradicted by the authorities. The merchants were served a notice to remove scrap stored in parking lots in front of their shops before July 4. This was necessary to clear this street running parallel to the one-way Court road to ease traffic and since it posed a health hazard by providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
