Bill to prevent fish adulteration on cards

T'puram: A comprehensive bill to protect fish workers from being exploited by middlemen and to end the practice of adulteration of fish would be introduced in the next session of Assembly, said Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma. If adulteration of fish is confirmed, the guilty would be sentenced with a jail term for six months and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. Meanwhile, the shortage of test strips to detect the presence of chemicals in fish is hampering inspections in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
