Seize Saritha’s sarees: High Court

Kochi: Sarita S Nair, prime accused in the solar scam case is now in the eye of another storm over her spread of sarees worth re. 13 lakh bought through ill-gotten wealth. Justice Haroon Al Rasheed said that prisons should not be turned into guest houses where accused wallow in luxury. Investigation has proved that this purchase was through money amassed by cheating and fraud. Section 102 of CrPC gives latitude to seize goods thus acquired. The government is duty bound to do this. He also remarked that being a judge doesn’t preclude articulating views as a citizen. He made these observations while hearing a land scam case involving CM Oommen Chandy’s former gun man Salim Raj.
