GST council mulls simplification of return filing norms

New Delhi: The Goods and Services Tax Council on Thursday discussed options to simplify tax return filing norms for the benefit of traders. It was also decided to include the sanitary napkins made by NGOs and community organisations such as Kudumbasree from cloth in separate category. Owing to strong objection raised by Kerala, the council failed to arrive at a decision to include real estate sector under the ambit of GST. Meanwhile, it slashed the GST rate on 54 services and 29 items, including old and used motor vehicles, public transport buses run on bio-fuels, sugar-boiled confectionery and packaged water. However, it could not finalise measures for simplification of the GSTN returns.
