Kerala Govt wants Centre to make Ockhi ration rice free

Thiruvananthapuram: The Centre's allotment of rice for Ockhi victims at a higher rate has put a financial burden of Rs 8 crore on the state exchequer. Citing that 80 percent of the ration rice distribution has been completed, State Minister for Food P Thilothaman said they want the Centre to make it free. Allotting 3555 metric tonnes of rice for the Ockhi victims, the Centre has directed Kerala Government to accept the same within a month. Last month, the ration rice share received from the Centre was distributed as Ockhi relief measure. Given the situation, it has become inevitable for the state government to use the rice allotted by the Centre for Ockhi victims for distribution under the Public Distribution System.
