T'puram: The Central government has allotted 3555 metric tonnes of rice for those affected by Cyclone Ockhi. Though the rice costs Rs 22 a kilogram, the Kerala government has to spent Rs 25 per kg, considering the transportation cost and this will create huge financial burden on the state exchequer. Earlier, the state government had decided to provide free ration for a month for Ockhi victims. The assistance from Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has been announced at a time when the state government completed distribution of free rice for 77 percent of the victims. The communication regarding Centre's assistance was received after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ockhi-hit areas on Tuesday.
