GAIL protest: Police say outsiders instigated trouble

Mukkam: Police said that it was outsiders, an ‘anti-GAIL committee’ that initiated the conflict by misleading the people against the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas project of the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) at Mukkam town on Wednesday. Rural District Police Chief Pushkaran said people have reached here from areas, including Keezhuparambu. They escaped when the conflict began and those trapped were the locals. The protest was led by those, including Popular Front. Their main aim is to incite violence creating fear among people, the police said. Strict action will be taken against the offenders. The police will provide security to the GAIL officials, who conducted the survey.
