Devyani: US toughens stand

Delhi: US have hardened its stand on Devyani Khobragade arrested last week over alleged visa fraud. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had demanded an American apology for humiliating the diplomat. Marie Harf, State Department spokesperson today rejected India's demand for dropping of charges calling it a “law enforcement issue”. Earlier, US Secretary of State John Kerry had called National Security Adviser Shivsankar Menon and expressed regret. Meanwhile, US denied receipt of any communication on transferring Devyani to the permanent mission at UN to ensure full diplomatic immunity. As US has rejected all demands, India’s diplomatic response is being watched.
