Govt to denotify highways; to reopen 219 liquor outlets

T'puram: The Cabinet meet on Wednesday decided to denotify the State Highways passing through Municipal limits. The decision was taken to pave the way for the opening of bars coming under municipal limits. The Excise and Public Works departments had given in-principle nod for the denotification of the State Highways. Mathrubhumi had earlier reported about the government move to denotify State Highways. The status of the State Highways is being changed after considering the unemployment crisis in the liquor sector and the detrimental impact on the tourism sector. With the denotification, around 219 liquor outlets will be reopened.
