Students reap what they sow

Kozhikode: NSS Volunteers of Panoor Government Higher Secondary School at Kizhakkoth show their mettle not only in studies but also in organic farming. They tried their farming skills on an adjacent twenty cent patch of land. Their initial harvest of tapioca yielded a good crop. Then they turned to planting different varieties of beans on ten cents. The abundant crop yields were achieved without the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Team captain Sahila says that practising what they are taught has made them more confident. Anilkumar, master, reveals that they encourage students to engage in farming not for gain but to make them aware of the importance of agriculture.
