Availability of fish: Mackerel slips to third position

Kochi: Mackerel has slipped to the third position behind sardine and Indian scad in the State in terms of availability, say estimates for 2016. This is the first time that it's catch has fallen this low. In the landing of sardine, the most popular fish in Kerala, a huge decline of 32.8 per cent was recorded. Kochi-based Central Marine Fisheries Institute (CMFRI), which released these estimates of marine fish landings in the country for 2016, said that Kerala has dropped out of the top three states in marine fish landings in the country for the first time in history.
