Reprising KT's 'Ithu Bhoomiyaanu'

T'puram: In a magical coincidence on Earth Day, Nishagandhi auditorium this evening hosts "Ithu Bhoomiyaanu" the biting satirical play by the legend of Malayalam theatre - K T Mohammed. The scathing attack on subjugation of women in a particular community has resonance beyond its communal milieu in the context of our still patriarchal society. The bold theme, which still astounds by its revolutionary paradigm, scandalised conservatives when staged first in Kozhikode in 1953 by the now defunct Brothers Music Club. Kalinga Theatres, founded by the maestro in 1980, reprises it after a hiatus of eight years in the capital, directed by Rangoon Rahman with a band of KT-acolytes performing as players.
