Govt to move ahead with Athirappilly project

T'puram: Power minister M M Mani said on Tuesday that the government will move forward with the Athirappilly project. The minister was responding to the question posed by MLA N Shamsudheen in the assembly. Mani said that the government has begun to acquire the land for the project. When the LDF government came to power, the then electricity minister Kadakampally Surendran had said that the government will implement the project. However, the CPI had voiced its opposition towards the project saying that the minister's stand is not the stand of LDF. The CPM also had earlier said that the project is harmful to environment. Surendran subsequently corrected his statement. However, Mani has taken a contrary stand on the issue.
