48-hour ‘occupy the streets’ protest in Idukki

Kattapana: Idukki dwellers are set to keep home fires burning on the roads for a stretch of forty eight hours from Sunday evening in protest at the centre’s move to implement the Kasturirangan panel recommendations for protection of the Western Ghats. This move in all main district centres with Kattapana as the hub will effectively result in blockading roads. The Moolamattom power generation plant will be besieged. The agitation committee has decided to desist from paying electric bills and remitting taxes till the issue is resolved to its satisfaction. Efforts are on to mobilise maximum support with participation of all religious and political leaders.
