Police, intelligence failure behind Berlin mayhem

Anis Amri who was facing deportation from Germany was under investigation since March 14 by authorities on suspicion of hatching “a serious crime endangering national safety”. Police admitted that red tape had allowed the Tunisian migrant to stay over before the Breitscheidplatz mayhem. Police and intelligence are facing questions after it came to light that he had used six false names to dodge security services and mingle with Islamist preachers, some of whom are now in custody. The initial failure to locate his asylum papers from the lorry meant that vital time was lost in the hunt for the suspect as a Pak asylum seeker was interrogated on misleading witness testimony as it turned out.
