Sony gives land for community pond to tackle drought

Kozhikode: Sony Mathew in the settler belt of Kodanchery has donated two and half cents of land to the panchayat for purpose of digging a community pond. Caught in the grip of the first ever drought the parched earth has developed cracks in this otherwise fertile area. This moved the altruistic agriculturist to give gratis land, which is valued at a lakh a cent. The pond will be built spending re. 470,000 under the National Rural Employment Guarantee ‘right to work’ scheme. Completion of the project would result in the commissioning of the drinking water supply, with tankers carrying water to parched house-holds in every nook and corner of the panchayat.
