In dark times, Rupali sings and dreams of change

Kozhikode: Without wearing weapons Rupali Jadhav and comrades deliver a rousing call to arms against inequality, Dalit killings, farmer suicides, female foeticide and corroding corruption, through song and theatre. Authorities dread the burning verses and music of the Pune-based protest group ‘Kabir Kala Manch,’ formed after the 2002 Gujarat pogrom. Perpetual hounding and imprisonment haven’t dampened their revolutionary ardour, which embraces the sufferings of the underclass. She rebuts police tagging of them as Maoists, by declaring themselves peoples’ & cultural artistes. Faced with official reprisal they had to move the courts for justice.
