Cauvery issue: Statewide shutdown in Tamil Nadu complete

Chennai: Various trade organisations and political parties called for a statewide shutdown to protest against the ongoing violence against Tamil natives in Karnataka over the Cauvery issue. The main opposition party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) carried out a march. The traffic was not affected in the one day strike but the shops and establishments remained closed. The security in Karnataka was beefed up in the wake of strike in Tamil Nadu.
