‘Aam Aadmi’ Party rakes in the moolah

Delhi: Less than a year since its formation, ‘Aam Aadmi’ Party has raised over Rs.17 crore. 35-40% of the fund has been collected online, a pointer to its middle class appeal. Recent spurt is credited to Arvind Kejriwal’s interaction with Indian diaspora in US & Hong Kong among other countries through Google hangouts. Over re.12.1 crore is from India, rest from abroad - U.S. tops with re.1.8 crore, followed by Hong Kong with re.1 crore plus. Hong Kong-based NRI Amit Aggarwal, who donated Rs.50 lakh is the biggest donor. Formed on the plank of ‘swaraj’ {self-rule} & ‘paardarshita’ {transparency} it had paltry means when it decided to contest the Delhi Assembly elections.
