Increasing clamour for rain water harvesting in Kerala

Kozhikode: There is an increasing clamour to institute a state rain water harvesting policy, with the previous effort not bearing fruit. In 2003, TN passed an ordinance to install rain water harvesting structures in all buildings. Similarly, Karnataka Municipalities Bill, 2011, made it mandatory to build rain water harvesting structure by households in municipal corporation areas. Prominent environmentalist, Prof. A Achyuthan speaks on the imperative to adopt such measures in houses, so that rain water can be stored to beat water distress. Studies show that more than a lakh litres of water is received as precipitation, which adequately harvested, would meet our needs.
