Impressive voter turnout; Polling @ 71.7%, says EC

The state election commission has pegged the polling percentage at 71.7% in its first estimate though unofficial sources said earlier that 75% of polling was recorded at at 6 p.m on Monday. The final figure of polling could reach 78%, say sources. Kozhikode. Thiruvananthapuram, where most seats witnessed tight three-cornered fights, recorded less than 70% polling. The 2.61 crore electorate will be choosing their representatives from the 1203 candidates, including 109 women, who are in the fray in 140 constituencies. Most of the prominent leaders such as Oommen Chandy, Pinarayi Vijayan, VS Achuthanandan, Kummanam Rajasehkaran, K Muraleedharan cast their votes in the morning itself
