New Delhi: The Supreme Court , while hearing a plea on allowing women to enter the Sabarimala temple, lambasted the Travancore Devaswom Board for their stand on banning entry of women of menstruating age inside the temple. The SC called the TDB stand as unfair and asked, "Is menstruation a tool to measure the purity of women? How will you measure the purity of men?" The Court made it clear that the traditions could be accepted only if there was no gender discrimination. As there was provision for those men who had not taken the customary 'vrat' (observing purity in life for 41 days) to reach the temple through an alternate route, why can't the women be allowed to enter the temple, asked the SC.
