Govt files affidavit favoring ban on women in Sabarimala

New Delhi: The Kerala government on Friday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying that women should not be allowed to enter Sabarimala Temple. The government has submitted a new affidavit in which it has modified the stand taken by the LDF ministry during its term. The affidavit points out that allowing women in the age group of 10 -50 is against customs and article 25, 26 of the constitution says that age-old customs and rituals should not be violated. The SC allowed the state government to submit a new affidavit when it considered the PIL submitted by Indian Young Lawyers' Association and five women lawyers to allow women in Sabarimala.
