SC upholds Kerala government's liquor policy

Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the Kerala government's liquor policy which restricted the service and consumption of liquor at bars in five star hotels only. An apex court bench comprising Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh dismissed petitions challenging the Kerala liquor policy and upheld the Kerala High Court judgement on the same. Excise minister K Babu said he was happy with the apex court verdict. There was nothing more in the verdict than an approval for the liquor policy adopted by the state, said KM Mani. Bar owners' leader Rajkumar Unni said his outfit would file review petition on the verdict. Bar owner Elegance Benoy said that those who made mistakes would have to pay.
